Product Description:
Amaco Velvet Underglazes feature a broad firing range, suitable for low-fire earthenware temperatures, with most colors retaining their vibrancy up to Cone 6. This versatility supports a wide range of artistic techniques. Additionally, many artists use these underglazes at Cone 10 and above, though color results may vary.
Amaco Velvet Underglazes are ideal for both experienced artists and beginners. Certified AP Non-Toxic and safe for classroom use, they are especially popular with children who consistently achieve satisfying results.
This underglaze performs effectively on bisque, greenware, and even wet clay. Unlike glazes, underglazes remain stable, making them ideal for achieving detailed, painterly effects. They can be left unglazed for a soft, velvet matte finish on decorative items or coated with a zinc-free clear glaze to enhance glossiness on both decorative and food-safe pieces.
NOTES:
Amaco Velvet Underglazes are certified AP Non-Toxic, ensuring they are safe for use in classroom environments.
The colors can be applied by brushing either (1) onto greenware, which should then be bisque fired before adding a covering glaze, or (2) directly onto a mature Cone 04 bisque (1971°F, 1077°C), followed by the application of a covering glaze.
Fire the piece to the clay’s maturation temperature, using a zinc-free clear glaze that is rated for the same cone temperature.
The color’s consistency in the jar is ideal for achieving opaque coverage when applied by brushing.
When applied under LG-9, V-327 appears as Green Turquoise, while under LG-10, it shows as Blue Turquoise.
To achieve optimal results with colors 318, 321, 322, 325, 326, 371, and 375, apply just two coats of LG-10 Clear Glaze.
