Amaco “PC” Potter’s Choice High Fire Glazes

The rich, reduction-fired look—right from your electric kiln

Loved by studio artists and teachers alike, Amaco Potter’s Choice glazes are the go-to choice for that beautiful, reduction-style finish—without needing a gas kiln. Specially formulated for Cone 5–6 electric firings, these glazes mimic the depth, layering, and variation of high fire reduction glazes with stunning results. Many artists also explore them at Cone 10 with great success!

While these glazes were designed with experienced potters in mind, they’re easy to use, even for beginners—and many are AP Non-Toxic and classroom safe, making them a safe, creative choice for any studio or classroom setting.

Why potters love Potter’s Choice:

  • Rich, layered color and reduction-style effects

  • Reliable performance in Cone 5–6 electric kilns

  • Most colors are food-safe (always check label)

  • Can be used solo or layered for endless combinations

  • Available in pints, gallons, or dry powder

Classroom Safety Note:
Many PC glazes in liquid form (like PC-12, 20, 21, 23, 27, 28, and others) carry the AP seal and are certified non-toxic. The dry dipping versions of these glazes are still safe but now labeled as “Conforms to ASTM D-4236” due to a change in packaging regulations.

Layering Tips (Especially for Dry Form Users):
While PC brushing glazes are great for layering, dry dipping forms don’t contain the same binder, so layering can be trickier. Some artists have had success through trial and error—but it may require experimenting to get just the look you're going for. Keep in mind that layering can lead to heavy glaze build-up, which may cause issues with glaze adhesion. If you're layering dry form glazes, start small and test your combinations before committing to a larger piece.

Good to know:

  • These glazes are ideal for decorative surfaces, and most can be used safely on food surfaces—just double-check the individual label

If you're looking to achieve a rich, studio-quality finish without the complexity of a reduction kiln, Amaco Potter’s Choice glazes deliver depth, variation, and visual interest—right from your electric kiln.
